Top 15 Weirdest Embedment Projects

For over 30 years, we’ve helped our clients voice their brand message through pieces of art. Our handcrafted process, manufactured entirely in our factory in Toronto, by our artisans who customize and turn rough acrylic into art pieces is a skill. We’ve received a lot of embedment requests, the majority rejected by other manufactures, that ignite our creative brain. We’re always ready to tackle new challenges and experiment with unusual materials to create custom awards and recognition pieces. Amongst other memorable pieces such as the ROM EditionThe Cork Edition or the Star Trek Prop, we will always remember these requests. Either because the object itself surprised us or because it challenged us to think of alternative ways to achieve a solution for our clients.

Here are our top 15 weirdest embedment projects we ever received:

  1. Fresh dung balls from the famous race horse Secretariat – we had to ask the client to take them home and dry them out in her oven.

  2. Gallstones.

  3. Blue Jay tickets.

  4. Dinosaur fossils for museums.

  5. A piece of Hitler’s marble desk.

  6. Cancelled cheques.

  7. Gold bars.

  8. Rat’s bones used for pharmaceutical teaching aids.

  9. A piece of the Berlin Wall – we’re pretty sure we had half of the wall in our plant.

  10. Real maple leaves – this project goes back to the earliest projects our VP got involved and how tricky the process involving embedding organic material. You can read the full story here.

  11. Feathers, bones and bugs – we’ve been working with the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) for years by embedding unique pieces of natural history for their touch and learn series.

  12. Donovan Bailey’s Olympic Medals.

  13. Army Challenge coins.

  14. Resin skull and bones for sculpture awards.

  15. Acrylic boxes to calibrate x-ray machines, did you know that lucite under the x-ray looks like human skin? This is really not an embedment but it’s just a fun fact of what we do at Clearmount that we need to add to this list.

Whenever we receive these cool projects, our team is always eager to see how the pieces will come out of the Autoclave oven and continue the process to create a one-of-a-kind piece. If you want a closer look into our handcrafted process, take a mini-tour through our factory
